Biography

Karen Geren received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Purdue University and her Master of Social Work degree in Mental Health and Management from Washington University. She is currently licensed as a Clinical Social Worker by the state of Missouri. Karen has over twenty years of experience treating tweens/preteens, adolescents, and adults with serious and persistent mental illness as well as specialized experience treating various psychological issues. She has been involved in program development and therapy practices with several mental health facilities including: inpatient unit with Wabash Valley Psychiatric Hospital, partial hospital program and case management with the Lafayette Clubhouse, intensive outpatient and transition programs for eating disorders with McCallum Place, and individual therapy with Counseling Works.

Karen Geren utilizes a non-judgmental and empowering approach that focuses on helping individuals access their internal strengths to cope with life’s difficulties. She offers unconditional support for improved wellbeing while actively challenging distortions or behaviors that may hinder progress. Interventions specific to the client’s needs are regularly reviewed in order to provide tools to be used outside of the therapy sessions.
